How To Play "Be A Broadway Star!"

The object of the game, recommended for ages 8 to adult, is to become the biggest Broadway star; and to achieve that, you need more fans than anyone else on the Great White Way. The players start off in acting school and work their way up to audition for casting agents, landing lead roles, getting your very own portrait at Sardi’s and, the final finish, make it into the Broadway Hall of Fame!

The board is very large and contains over hundreds of landing space for your pawns. Some spaces include seeing a Broadway show for the first time, having to buy dance shoes, going through wardrobe malfunctions, signing autographs at the stage door, your fans finding racy photos of you on Facebook, and all sorts of other fun, serious, and other hilarious things that can happen while trying to make it in the business.

The majority of the spaces are blue “Auditions” where the player draws a respected card that says they got cast as one of the leads in a Broadway show (examples include Thoroughly Modern Millie, Godspell, Sweeney Todd, Hairspray, Wicked, and more) or that they bombed the audition while cracking on a high note or being too young for the part and even getting lost on your way to the audition place.

There is also a banker, similar to that of a Monopoly game, who distributes show salaries to the players, Equity cards, Agent cards, and Tony Award cards throughout the entire game.

Every space earns, or loses, fan cards and money from the players. The fan cards are the most important part of the game. Worth 25 to 100 fans, these cards are hidden from other players when someone else earns them, so by the end of the game you may be ready for your final audition.

As the instructions say, “the game is over when all players have reached the Broadway Hall of Fame. And once you land [there], you must draw a final audition. If the card says ‘You Got Cast!’, you must since 2 lines as the character on the card and it must be 2 lines the character actually sings in the show.” If you get it right on the first try, you get a Lifetime Achievement Bonus! PLUS, you receive your final salary plus and additional 1000 fans! And so on and so forth until there is a first, second, and third place Bonus recipient. (Players who don’t get the song right or get “Cut” will have to keep going until they get it correctly.)

After that, you all count your fans, with a special curve where every $1 you have ALSO equals one fan, and whoever has the most is the WINNER!!
